Prostate Cancer and Sickle Cell Targets of New Fraternity Leader
Elie Banks, 41 of St. Louis, Missouri was elected the 48th Illustrious Potentate of Medinah Temple
#39, a constituent body of the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Worldwide.
Banks says his charities will address the health of our people and prevention of further suffering for
men with prostate cancer and families affected by sickle cell disease. “Sickle Cell personally affects
my family and many of our members are diagnosed annually with prostate cancer, but go to the doctor too
late to be properly treated,” said Banks. Medinah Temple #39 has supported Children’s Hospital and
their Sickle Cell Clinic the past three years and continues to educate men about preventing deaths from
prostate cancer via Dr. James Whittico, Imperial Medical Director for the Mystic Shrine Worldwide.
Banks is a native of Scott, Mississippi and attended St. Louis Public Schools and Chicago Public
Schools. He is currently employed with United Parcel Service where he serves as a Shop Steward. He is
married to Monica Banks and has six children. Mrs. Banks serves as Oriental Guide for the Medinah Court
#15, Daughters of Isis, the female auxiliary to the Shriners.
“I hope persons realize the work of Medinah Temple in our community and that we are here to serve our
children and community based agencies that uplift families,” said Banks.
